In
the 1980s, gymnastics was almost a different sport. The Soviet
gymnasts received help from the Bolshoi dancers and choreographers
and it is focused on emotion beautifully. People constantly complain
about the Code
of Points (CoP) which
gives credit only for acrobatics and not artistry though it is still
called Artistic Gymnastics.
There
is a funny montage called Bruno
Grundi Killed the Gymnastics Star,
Grundi has been the
Olympic Gymnastics head for
about 20 years.
Surprisingly,
the Soviet choreographers loved having the chance to do western art
and many
are based on American films like
3 that one person called "The
Soviets Do Gershwin".
Olyessia
Dudnik did
a beautiful floor exercise of Rhapsody
in Blue in
1989and
at the end twirls around and throws herself on the floor like women
who were in love sometimes did in black and white movies to show
their joy.
